Summary

Major depression is a common disturb in clinical practice and it is related to increased morbidity and mortality rate when in co-morbidity with another clinical diseases. The physician often sees soft and mild depression which vague complaints like prostration, insomnia, fatigue and hesitation. Some diseases such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, lupus, cancer, Parkinson disease, Cushing disease and stroke, and medicine like oral contraceptives, reserpine, benzodiazepines and anfetamines are associated to depression. The treatment of depression is based on the use of antidepressant drugs until remission of all the symptoms and a maintenance phase during at last six months.
