Summary
Objective: This article goal is to review hypothermia effects in cardiac arrest in scientific literature.
Methods: Analysis of several scientific articles about therapeutic hypothermia in cardiac arrest.
Results: Mild hypothermia reduces inflammation and tissue´s oxigen consume, increasing the neurological outcome from patients that had suffered an cardiac arrest.
Conclusion: It is proved that hypothermia is a efficient method for patients that had suffered an cardiac arrest, mainly due it´s increase in neurological outcome. It has also been noticed that an important percentage of the medical class aren´t aware of such treatment, despite it´s inclusion in the ACLS in 2005.
