Summary
Menopausal hormone treatment is being underutilized. The curative and preventive potentials are already established in basic research and the trials that prove its clinic effectivity are published. Some questions need to be clarified to increase the compliance of the patients to conventional estrogens or of vegetal origin: the fear of breast cancer, the adverse events of progestogens, the benefits of the long term treatment, the perception of menopause as a noxious factor, the concept of friendly hormone, the bases of post-WHI menopausal hormone treatment, and the alternative treatments.
