Summary

The irritable bowel syndrome is a clinical condition that by its wide variety of symptoms abdominal pain, intestinal movement disturbances, post prandial plenitude and abdominal distension leads the patient to look for medical help a lot, being frequent the consultation with several specialists. Although the prognosis is good, more serious conditions may affect directly the ill person’s quality of life. Based on these considerations, the aim of the present manuscript is to discuss the main aspect of the irritable bowel syndrome.
