Summary
As cardiac surgery has become more accessible, the number of patients with prosthetic valves has been growing each year. Particularly in this group stands out the thromboembolism phenomenon in patients with metallic prostheses.
The aim of this case report is to show an embolic event with a severe ischemic impairement of central nervous system in a patient with a metallic prosthetic valve without adequate anticoagulation. Moreover, it is discussed the importance of anticoagulation in these patients and the ideal conduct in case of stroke due to embolism.
