Summary

Several molecular mechanisms act in neural crest cells formation, migration and differentiation. Many of these mechanisms could only be understood because of advances in molecular biology techniques. However, there is much to be elucidated for a complete understanding of how a group of cells originated in neuroectoderm participate in the formation of so diverse structures as peripheral nervous system, heart and face bones and cartilages.
