Summary

The deposit of calcium is the most important factor limiting the durability of cardiac valves prostheses made with heterologic fixed tissues, particularly when porcine valve tissue or bovine pericardium are used. Calcification of the valve bioprothesis being an universal problem, each group of researchers tries to study and to face the problem in different ways. This manuscript describes the study about the pre-treatment of bovine pericardium used for prostheses with a standardized solution of amino acid solution to avoid their calcification. The results are favorable to the treated group. Although preliminary, the results point to the benefits of this procedure, that could lead to a better outcoming of operated patients in the future.
