Tissue engineered skin had been be defined as the application of the principles and methods of engineering and life sciences toward the development of biologic skin substitutes to restore, maintain or improve function of the skin, mainly tissue repair.

The authors made a literature review about biological skin substitutes using clinical examples of application developed by Rio de Janeiro Skin Bank.
