Summary

Physiotherapy is a crucial step in the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles to treat women with urinary incontinence and genital prolapse. The postural treatment through the tonic and phasic reorganization of posture method is unique among the available resources for rehabilitation since it includes the intervention on the muscle-skeletal and neural control systems correcting both the causes and consequences of the postural instability, being in this aspect a new paradigm of physiotherapeutic intervention. The distinctive feature of this method is the intervention on the distal-proximal or cranial-caudal direction, in opposition to other methods that initiate the procedure at the spine or the body gravity center.
