Summary

We have studied 2418 newborns divided in two groups as follows: I – Apgar score less than 7 in the fifth minute and; II – Apgar score equal or above 7 at the same time. We correlated the Apgar score with several intervals of gestacional age and weight at delivery.

We have verified a high incidence of Apgar < 7 in chidren with gestacional age less than 32 weeks and high incidence of a high Apgar in children aged 38 weeks or more. As for weight, the low Apgar indexes ocurred in children less than than 1.500g.
