Summary

Two distinct neurosurgical services originated from Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo, Hospital. Dr. Carlos Gama was one of the neurosurgical pioneers in Brazil and of the neurosurgical service of Clínicas Hospital of São Paulo. After Dr. Carlos Gama’s premature death in 1963, Dr. Rui R. D. Carvalho iniciated Santa Casa’s neurosurgical service.
